At Rosewood State High School, we are fortunate to have a School-Based Youth Health Nurse (SBYHN), Ms Justin Coulson, who is employed by Queensland Health. Justine visits our school regularly and works with students to promote health and wellbeing, while also helping them connect with relevant support services.
The Youth Health Nurse can provide information and support on a range of topics, including:
- Healthy eating and physical activity
- Feeling unhappy or stressed
- Relationships
- Healthy skin
- Sexual health
- Smoking, alcohol, and other drugs
- Personal and family problems
- Growth and development
Confidentiality and Support
Young people have a right to confidentiality when accessing health services. As a health professional, the Youth Health Nurse respects this right. However, please note that within the education system, there are specific circumstances where the nurse is required to refer or act upon information shared. Students are encouraged to discuss confidentiality and what to expect during their appointment.
Accessing the Service
The SBYHN service is voluntary, and students can choose whether or not they wish to access support. Appointments can be made directly with Justine, or students may be referred through the school Guidance Officer.
